How did you achieve your success as one of Ascension Partner’s Top Performer?
During my initial years with Prudential, I have set up certain habits and routines, which I think have helped me all these years, even till now, when I am almost 30 years in the industry. For one, other than during the Covid Circuit Breaker period, I am out of my house daily, either at the office or having meetings outside. This habit gives me a sense of mission daily and also instils discipline in me - a trait that is compromised once I am home.
What motivated you to join this industry / stay on in this industry throughout the years?
I joined Prudential when I was studying at NTU as a means to support myself. This exposure allowed me to learn about the insurance industry, which I find meaningful when planning for my client’s insurance needs. After graduation, without hesitation, I decided to stay on. From my second year in this business (during my university days) till today, I have experienced how insurance works in times of need for my clients and friends. Besides insurance needs, I am also looking forward to planning for their retirement needs and seeing them able to retire comfortably financially.
What is the most challenging part/moment in your career and how did you overcome it?
This industry is ever-changing and there is always something new - government policy changes, new regulations, new products, and other companies' new launches. And in our current role of financial advisory, we also have to keep up in areas outside of the insurance industry - property sector, tax laws, CPF regulations and changes, and world economic and market news. It takes time and effort to keep abreast of these changes.
How has this career changed your life?
Even though this business provides a lot of flexibility, I have been a workaholic; clocking 7 days a week, when I first started work. As I come across more and more claims in my work through the years, I realised the importance of spending time, and cherishing the time spent, with my family and friends, and making sure I set aside time for them.
